Tucked away in the in the extreme northeastern part of McHenry County lies 521 acres of preserved open space known as North Branch Conservation Area. The meadow and marsh are excellent places to view birds, butterflies, and wildflowers. North Branch Conservation Area also welcomes hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, and snowmobiling. This site features picnic areas, and overnight camping is available for cyclists. McHenry County Conservation District exists to preserve, restore and manage natural areas and open space for their intrinsic value and for the benefits to present and future generations.
