Located in the center of Louisville and adjacent to the Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve, LNC offers nature and sustainability education, as well as an urban wilderness experience. The unique urban forest includes two miles of hiking trails through the 41 acre Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve, and 30 acres of surrounding forest. The Nature Center and Preserve are located on an upland and floodplain forest that has over 180 species of trees, shrubs and flowering plants. It is also home to over 150 species of resident and migratory birds and other animals. The grounds include a Nature Play Area, Bird Blind, Rain Garden and Sensory Garden that are home to butterflies, hummingbirds and beneficial insects.
