Fishtrap Recreation Area
Description :
The 8,000-acre Fishtrap Recreation Area is only 30 minutes west of Spokane and represents a part of the Channeled Scablands, a landscape carved thousands of years ago by the Missoula Floods during the last ice age. When the ancient ice dam burst, immense flooding spread across the Northwest, leaving a variety of unique landscapes, including the mixture of ragged rock outcroppings, wet meadows and shrub-steppe at Fishtrap. In addition to hiking, the public land parcel is also popular for fishing, hunting, backpacking and horseback riding, among other recreation opportunities. There is also a historic farm on the property. Both Fishtrap Lake and Hog Canyon Lake have boat launches and are stocked with rainbow trout.
