Experience "the best rural nature center & botanical garden in Texas." The Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI), a nonprofit organization, was established in December 1973. Its Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center & Botanical Gardens is on a 507-acre site, comprised of semi-desert grasslands and igneous rock outcrops. Geologic features include Modesta Canyon, a unique riparian canyon with a year-round spring, and Clayton's Overlook, with its spectacular hilltop vistas. CDRI offers ~ 5 miles of hiking trails, Botanical Gardens, the Cactus Museum Collection, Mining Exhibit, Bird Blind, Visitor Center, and Gift Shop. Check-in at the Visitor Center for trail information and maps. Admission is $6.50 per person over 12 years old. Dog friendly.
