Monte Sano Nature Preserve is one of the largest urban land preserves in the US. Only two miles from downtown Huntsville, this 1100+ acre natural escape features 22+ miles of free public trails for hiking, biking, and outdoor recreation. Land Trust trails on Monte Sano offer varying levels of difficulty and connect to trails managed by Monte Sano State Park. This nature preserve showcases the importance of conservation with an abundance of native wildflowers, karst features, historical sites, waterfalls and more. Trails are open to the public dawn to dusk daily. South Monte Sano Trailhead - one of 6 available to access this nature preserve - offers a small gravel parking area and direct access historic Trough Springs area.
